Thanks

But for some reason I'd rather hack up the neck than have to use that

Never. Just use (or make) a full pocket shim. I've been told it's overkill, but I ALWAYS make a full pocket shim, whenever I need a shim. There are a bunch of butt-clowns that tell me I'm crazy, and a pick will do the same thing, but then they turn around and post how a neck-through has better tone because the neck has full contact.

A full pocket shim is very easy to make, and it will be a perfect fit for your guitar (since you're making it specific for that pocket),

I'm sure it works great, but I can't personally live with a full pocket shim....

I would need to remove about 1/8th from the underside of the fretboard overhang to get away with without using a shim. That's a lot of material considering the overhang thickness is a hair over 1/4"

I decided to sand the finish about 1/16th of a inch off the top of the body where the fretboard overhang meets the body. This should give me the correct neck angle of 0-5 degree, right now, if i am measuring correctly, its about an 8

My thought too. Bad idea day. I hope it works out without getting a spider-crackle finish, though. Good luck :thumbs .
